This reference may be autobiographical. On weekends Miles' husband Frank picked her up in a wagon to drive her home to Walden's Ridge. In her diary entry of May 30, 1914, she records one such trip which echoes that described in the column: "Got thru the office early and joined Frank in the terrible heat of Market St. I thought we could go home early, but we did not start till 1:30, and the day nearly did me up" (4).
